Union City has been designated a City of Civility by the Georgia Municipal Association, reaffirming its commitment to fostering respectful and constructive dialogue. The recognition was presented at the GMA Cities United Summit in Atlanta on January 26, 2025. A special thanks to Mayor and Council for their dedication to participating and embracing this important recognition in our approach to business.

The Embrace Civility program, developed by GMA in partnership with Georgia City Solutions, provides cities with tools to promote civility in public meetings and community interactions. Civil behavior and speech are essential to maintaining a functional and respectful society, ensuring that public service operates in an atmosphere of mutual respect and open exchange of diverse perspectives.

To achieve this designation, Cities must adopt a Civility Resolution and pledge to uphold principles that encourage productive discourse. The Civility Pledge is built on nine pillars emphasizing active listening, empathy, and respect for differing opinions. Through this ongoing commitment, Union City continues to lead by example in creating a more inclusive and considerate community.
