School Zone Safety Cameras

Union City utilizes state-of-the-art digital cameras and proven violation detection technology to help decrease potential violations at school zone locations across the City. Georgia Law allows speed cameras to be installed in school zone areas and record one hour before the school day, during school hours, and one hour after school ends.
Where are the speed safety cameras located and when are they operational?
Speed safety cameras are located near Liberty Point Elementary School and C.H. Gullatt Elementary School. Speed safety cameras will only capture on school days during school hours and one hour before and after school hours during the school year. Violations will not be captured during summer months.
Why did I receive a citation when there were no children or buses present?
Cameras actively record 24 hours a day. For school zone enforcement purposes, active times are while schools are in session.
6:40 am to 7:40 am (25 miles per hour Active Enforcement)
7:40 am to 1:20 pm (35 miles per hour Active Enforcement)
1:20 pm to 3:20 pm (25 miles per hour Active Enforcement)
I received a citation dated for a Saturday/Sunday. Is the citation valid?
No, citations are only valid during school hours.
What is the fine amount for a school zone speeding violation, and will “points” be assessed to my driving record?
The fine amount for a school zone speed safety camera is $75 for a first offense and $125 for a second offense. A violation for which a civil monetary penalty is imposed pursuant to Georgia Code Section 40-14-18 shall be deemed noncriminal and no points are assigned. Drivers who receive speed camera violations are cited for speed violations only.
