(Union City, GA) - Union City is proud to announce the official ribbon cutting of its first set of public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10 AM.

The event will take place at 5047 Union Street and coincides with the national recognition of World Electric Vehicle Day, highlighting the City’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and clean transportation.

The eight ABB Terra AC Wallbox Level 2 Charging Stations were installed through Georgia Power’s Make Ready Program, a partnership that supports municipalities in expanding EV infrastructure. Each 40-amp, single-port charging station is dual-mounted and paired with exclusive parking spaces, providing convenient and reliable charging for residents, commuters, and visitors.

Through Georgia Power’s Make Ready program, Georgia Power installs and maintains the electrical infrastructure up to the charger, and the charger itself is purchased and owned by the City. The program makes electric vehicle charging infrastructure more affordable for cities, municipalities, and other business customers to support the growing electric vehicle market and achieve sustainability objectives.

“This ribbon cutting is about more than just plugging in cars, it is about plugging into the future,” said Mayor Vince R. Williams. “The City Council and I are committed to investing in clean energy and forward-thinking infrastructure that improves the quality of life today while securing a more sustainable tomorrow for our growing community.”

Union City invites the community to join city leaders, partners, and stakeholders for this momentous occasion. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the charging stations firsthand and learn more about how the City is embracing eco-friendly solutions that reduce emissions and promote innovation.

This milestone reflects Union City’s broader sustainability vision, which includes investing in parks, trails, affordable housing, and upgraded infrastructure, all part of the City’s commitment to creating a more connected and resilient community.
