Union City Awarded KABOOM! Playground Grant to Build Inclusive Play Space at Eagles Nest Sports Complex

(Union City, GA)- The City of Union City is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the KABOOM! Playground Grant, with funding provided by The Atlanta Falcon’s Youth Fund and Georgia Power.

The KABOOM! Playground Grant is a community-centered initiative aimed at bringing a new, inclusive playground to the Eagles Nest Sports Complex. By collaborating with residents, local stakeholders, and funding partners, this project empowers the youth and families of Union City to help design a playground tailored to their dreams and needs.

This exciting opportunity will allow Union City to build a high-quality, accessible play space that promotes children’s health, development, and social interaction. The initiative also strengthens neighborhood connections through a community-build process that brings together volunteers, families, and city partners to create a safe and engaging environment for kids.

Lee Blitch, Union City’s Director of Parks and Recreation expressed his enthusiasm for the project stating, “KABOOM! projects are special because they’re built by the community, for the community. Kids, parents, and volunteers all come together to bring these spaces to life. It builds trust, ownership, and pride in our public spaces.”

Mayor Vince Williams echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the City Council’s shared commitment stating, “This isn't just about slides and swings. It's about creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging space where kids can be kids. It's about building a gathering place where families connect, friendships grow, and healthy habits begin.”

The City will be hosting a Design Day Event on July 8th for our residents to participate in the design of the new playground. This event will be hosted at the Gathering Place, with more information to come.
