Grant from the Food Well Alliance
(Union City, GA) - The City of Union City is excited to announce that it has been awarded the "Garden Improvement Grant" from the Food Well Alliance. This grant, in the amount of $1,500.00, will help address infrastructure and material needs to keep Union City’s community garden thriving.
The goal of the Garden Improvement Grant is to grow community gardens in the Atlanta Metro area to strengthen communities, share knowledge and enrich urban ecosystems.
The award, received through a competitive application process, highlights the City’s commitment to enhancing community pride and access to healthy and local fruits and vegetables.
Mayor Vince Williams stated, "The City Council and I are appreciative of this grant opportunity. It is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our residents."
City Manager, Sonja Fillingame echoed this sentiment adding, "We deeply appreciate this award as it underscores our city's resilience and vision of fostering green spaces that will help bring our community closer together."
The expected outcomes for this program include improved community engagement, expanding the growing space in the garden through structures like trellises and to create a designated pollinator and herb garden bed.
