During the March 24th 2026 regular city council meeting, Mayor and Council, unanimously (5-0), adopted a 180-day moratorium on accepting certain applications, while the zoning ordinance rewrite is underway. The moratorium will impact the acceptance, processing, and approval of applications for zoning map amendments/rezonings, text amendments and conditional use applications.
Waste Management will collect waste, cardboard, and other approved materials that are properly placed inside the designated waste container. It is the responsibility of the business to ensure all materials are placed inside the container and that the area around the container remains clear.
Waste, cardboard, or other materials piled outside or around the container will not be collected as part of the regular service. If a business regularly generates more waste than its container can accommodate, the business should consider:
Increasing the size of its waste container; or
Increasing the number of scheduled collections per week.
Additional charges may apply for excess waste or collection services outside the regular service. Incidents may also be documented.
Businesses are responsible for ensuring that waste containers are unobstructed and accessible to the collection vehicle on scheduled service days.
If a container is blocked or otherwise inaccessible and the WM driver is unable to service the container, an additional charge may apply for a return trip to the property.
Single-stream recycling services are available for businesses that participate in the City's commercial recycling program. WM will provide the appropriate recycling container based on the business's service needs.
Commercial recycling containers are available in sizes ranging from 2 to 8 cubic yards.
Businesses should place recyclable materials inside the designated recycling container and ensure the container is accessible for scheduled collection.
Construction Roll-Off Containers
Construction roll-off containers are available separately for construction, renovation, demolition, and other projects that generate larger quantities of waste.
Roll-off containers must be ordered separately from regular commercial sanitation services.
Complete the City of Union City Commercial Sanitation Application (Commercial Application for Utility Service). The application provides the City with the information needed to establish commercial utility and sanitation services.
Contact the City of Union City Public Services Department Utility Division at 770-515-7953 for assistance with establishing your service.
Once your service is established, Waste Management (WM) will provide the appropriate waste container(s) based on your business's service needs.
