The ceremony, held on October 8, 2025, at 3660 Royal South Parkway, marked the culmination of a vision first brought to life in September 2024, when the City broke ground on the project.

Veterans Park stands as a powerful symbol of Union City’s ongoing mission to Reclaim, Renew, and Reimagine, a tranquil space designed for reflection, connection, and gratitude. The park features a scenic bridge, a winding nature trail around a peaceful pond, elegant fountains, and a formal memorial area where residents can pause to honor those who have served our nation.

“The City Council and I are honored to open Veterans Park, a space that will forever commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans,” said Mayor Vince R. Williams. “It is a place of reflection and gratitude, where our community can come together to pay tribute to those who have served our country. Veterans Park stands as a lasting reminder of the strength, courage, and unity that define Union City.

City Manager Sonja Fillingame echoed that sentiment, noting that the project represents the City’s collective strength and shared purpose. “The creation of Veterans Park exemplifies our City’s commitment to honoring those who’ve served and providing a beautiful, lasting legacy for future generations,” she said.

The ceremony was filled with pride and reverence as Benjamin Banneker High School’s JROTC and Marching Band led the presentation of colors and musical selections that set a heartfelt tone for the event. The City also extended its deepest gratitude to the men and women representing all branches of the Armed Forces who joined in attendance, an embodiment of the unity and strength this new space represents.

From its inception to today’s unveiling, Veterans Park has been a project driven by community spirit, collaboration, and respect. As residents walked across the new bridge and along the nature trail, they reflected not only on the City’s progress but on the enduring sacrifices that made it possible.

Union City invites everyone to visit Veterans Park, a place to remember, to honor, and to find peace in the stories of service that have shaped our community and our nation.
