Union City Honored as 2025 Visionary City Award Recipient

(Union City, GA) - Union City is honored to be recognized as one of Georgia's 2025 Visionary City Award recipients during the Georgia Municipal Association's Cities United Summit. This prestigious award highlights our efforts to foster positive community change through innovative projects like the Eagles Nest Sports Complex. Formally known as the Hwy 29 Ballfields, the Eagles Nest Sports Complex spans an impressive 16.72 acres and is a cornerstone of Union City's Union Station Greenline—a 10.2-mile system of interconnected trails designed to promote outdoor activities and non-motorized transportation.

The complex showcases Union City's dedication to enhancing the health, wellness, and connectivity of its growing population of over 26,000 residents. Key features include:

A State-of-the-Art Skate Park: Completed through federal funding from the Department of Natural Resources' Land Water Conservation Fund, this facility has become a vibrant hub for local youth, offering a safe, engaging space for skateboarding and socializing.

Rubberized Trail: A new 0.60-mile trail, funded by the Department of Natural Resources' Recreational Trails Program, will soon provide dedicated spaces for walking, running, and wheelchair use. Once completed, the trail will connect the complex to Ronald Bridges Park and The Gathering Place Community Center, further integrating Union City's green spaces and civic amenities.

Strategic Location: Situated near State Route 14 and accessible via public transportation, the complex is well-positioned to serve both residents and visitors.

The Visionary City Awards, presented by the Georgia Municipal Association in partnership with Georgia Trend Magazine, honor cities that exemplify leadership in improving their communities. Union City's Eagles Nest Sports Complex was recognized for its emphasis on civic engagement, equity, collaboration, and long-term value.
