The Kenneth L. Johnson Depot is a historic and revitalized community landmark located at 5061 Union Street in Union City, Georgia, adjacent to City Hall. Originally constructed in 1908 as a train depot, the building has been thoughtfully reconstructed and reimagined as a modern community space while preserving its historical charm.
Named in honor of Kenneth L. Johnson, a cherished Union City resident and longtime municipal employee, the Depot reflects his legacy of public service and community dedication. The facility was officially unveiled in November 2021 after a two-year redevelopment project led by SWI Studios, who carefully replicated the original depot’s architectural details and color palette.
Spanning 1,875 square feet, the Depot now serves as a versatile venue for civic gatherings, business meetings, and community events. It features a conference center with seating for approximately 35 people, state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, and a catering kitchen with buffet service capabilities accessible via a sliding door system.
The Kenneth L. Johnson Depot stands as a testament to Union City’s commitment to honoring its history while fostering community engagement and growth.
