Building Permits (Commercial & Residential)

 

Overview

The Building Permits Division, under the Community Development Department, serves as the primary point of contact for all construction-related permitting and inspection activities within the city. The Division is responsible for ensuring that all building code for projects are within compliance with applicable local ordinances, state regulations, and adopted building codes to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. 

Most construction projects require a building permit, which must be obtained by the property owner or a licensed and bonded contractor acting on behalf of the owner. 

Work may only begin after a permit has been officially issued. Construction must commence within 180 days of the date of issuance and may not be suspended or abandoned for more than 180 consecutive days. If either of these timeframes is exceeded, the permit will automatically expire, and a new application will be required. To request an extension, please contact our office at 770-515-7950 (Option 1).
